HUGO PALMER

- Trainer of 15 Group winners

- British Classic winning trainer

Originally from the Scottish borders, Hugo made the move to Newmarket in 2011 to set up as a trainer aged just 29. Palmer gained valuable experience and carved a great base to his career when working at some of Britain’s best Stud farms including Cheveley Park Stud and Highclere Stud, receiving advice from the likes of Chris Richardson and Her Majesty's racing advisor John Warren. Hugo also spent time working under trainers Patrick Chamings, Hughie Morrison and the legendary Gai Waterhouse in Australia.

Hugo quickly proved himself by winning the 2012 Listed Prix Jaques de Bremond with Making Eyes. Then followed more success including the Group 3 European Wealth Solario Stakes with Aktabantay and the Dick Poole Fillies Stakes with New Providence.

Next in 2015, Covert Love landed dual Group 1 victories in the Irish Oaks and the Prix de l’Opera. 2016 saw Hugo take his first British Classic with Galileo Gold striking gold in the 2,000 Guineas and Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes. Hawksmoor went on to win the German 1,000 Guineas which was regained by the stables when Unforgettable Filly completed the same feat in 2017.

More recently, notable winners include Gifted Master in the 2018 Stewards’ Cup, Powerful Breeze in the 2019 Group 2 May Hill Stakes and Set Piece in the British Stallion Studs EBF Hyde Stakes.

With an admirable strike rate, and 35 Stakes winners to his name, Hugo has quickly established himself as one of the country’s leading young trainers.
