A comparatively late-bloomer at 25, Nicola Currie’s career kick started when Richard Hughes provided Nicola with a first winner in an apprentice handicap at Kempton on December 2016 on a horse, suitably called ‘Believe It’.

She hasn’t looked back since, riding an incredibly 81 winners in 2018 and being voted Lady Rider of the Year. Only 2 female jockeys have ridden more than 100 winners in a calendar year and Currie has set her sights on becoming the third, “I one hundred percent want to set the bar higher and ride 107 winners.”

Currie has the ability to stand out from the crowd. Open and friendly with a soft Scottish accent, she is a rare sporting success story from the isle of Arran. Her exploits have prompted the locals to switch the racing on in her local pub, and a small fan club has evolved.

With some powerful stables backing her in 2019, the sky is the limit for Nicola Currie.
