- Grade 1 winning jockey – 2019 Stayers Hurdle at Aintree
- Youngest British Conditional Jockey Champion (2014/15)
- 91 winners in 2018/19 season
22 year old Welsh jockey, Sean Bowen, has now established himself as one of the top National Hunt jockeys in the country. This is no surprise as he has racing success in his bloodlines. His father, Peter, is a successful national hunt trainer based in South Wales. Mother, Karen, a previously accomplished point to point jockey. Older brother, Mickey, a successful trainer of point to pointers and hunter chasers and his younger brother, James, is a very good jockey in his own right and based with Nicky Henderson.
With 91 winners last season, placing him 7th overall in the Jump Jockey Championships for the second season running just behind Richard Johnson, Harry Skelton, Brian Hughes, Harry Cobden, Sam Twiston- Davies and Aidan Coleman highlights how successful his career to date has been. He was the youngest Champion Conditional jockey when he won the title in 2014/15 – a great way to end his first season as a professional.
Sean rides for Harry Fry, Peter Bowen, Paul Nicholls, Caroline Bailey, Rebecca Curtis and Gordon Elliot and has ridden over 350 winners since taking out his professional license.
In 2015 he rode in his first Grand National finishing a respectable 11th place. That year he went on to win the Bet 365 Gold Cup at Sandown Park on Just A Par when he was also crowned Champion Conditional Jockey. Two years later he won the same race again at Sandown on Henllan Harri, a horse trained by Peter, his father. This April he won the Grade 1 Stayers’ Hurdle at Aintree on If The Cap Fits and is currently sitting in 7th place in this seasons Stobart Jump Jockeys Championships.
With a fighting attitude and only being 22 years old, he has a hugely exciting future in front of him!
