Fergal O’Brien

Grade 1-winning National Hunt trainer

Limerick-born Fergal has built one of the most prolific yards in the country at the state-of-the-art Ravenswell Farm, near Cheltenham, where he has been based since 2019. Having learned his trade with the legendary Captain Tim Forster and then Nigel Twiston-Davies, he took out his own licence in 2011. In the past five seasons he has trained over 550 winners, including a career-best 141 in 2022/23, and is a regular fixture in the top ten of the National Hunt trainers’ championship. Since his first Grade 1 with Poetic Rhythm in the 2017 Challow Novices’ Hurdle, the big-race winners have continued to flow from a yard that remains firmly on the up.
