After more than 30 years in the saddle, and having failed to recover from a knee injury, Martin Dwyer recently called time on an exceptional riding career.
Over 1,500 winners, including seven Group 1s, testify to a jockey with rare skill and tenacity. Born and raised on Merseyside, Martin’s dream was to play for Everton but his father’s passion for horseracing diverted Martin’s attention to the saddle. A move that would eventually take him to the very top of the sport when he rode Sir Percy to victory in the 2006 Epsom Derby.
In recent years, Martin has become a familiar face in broadcasting. His natural talent in front of the camera, along with an exceptional knowledge of the sport, has seen him become a regular on Racing TV’s ‘The Friday Club’.
